SPIDER-MAN - “Your Friendly Neighborhood Wall Crawler”

BATMAN

WHY THE'RE COOL

Spider-Man is the every man superhero, especially the ones down on their luck. While he maybe a superhero, he still worries about paying rent, getting good grades, and looking out for his elderly Aunt. Be Spider-Man gives him an awesome way to relieve stress. That is, when it doesn't just add more stress to his life.

At a young age Peter Parker's parents disappeared, and are presumed dead. So he was raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. A gifted student, he was visiting a laboratory as a young teen. There he was bitten by a radioactive spider, which (somehow) gave him all the 'powers' of a spider. At first he hoped to make money, but when he didn't help to stop a criminal, that criminal later killed his Uncle. Spider-Man forever blames himself for his Uncles death, and so decides to become a superhero. As he'll often say, “With great power, comes great responsibility.”

Thanks to that spider, Spider-Man is super strong, can jump super high, and can stick to walls. More over he has spider-sense, which allows him to sense danger; from a bottle being thrown at his head, to a bomb in a room. Through his own genius, he has developed webshoots on his wrist. With them, he can create a sticky string to swing on or ensnare villains with it.

When not saving the world, Peter still goes to school (college or high school depending on the story) and works as a freelance photographer for the Daily Bugle newspaper, mainly because he gets great photos of Spider-Man. His boss, Editor-n-Chief Jame Jonah Jameson hates Spider-Man, and always gives him grief. While originally a nerd, Spider-Man has managed several beautiful girlfriends: Gwen Stacy, who died and Mary Jane Wastons (who depending on the story, he marries).

MOVIE VERSION

Currently played by British actor Tom Hollander in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING and the upcoming AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. Not much is known about this new version of Spider-Man, but here his costume was made by Iron Man and his Aunt May is very young- compared to the comics.

DIEHARD
There's a great debate over who created Spider-Man.  Stan Lee or the artist Steve Ditko.  This a bio on Ditko, who has also a bit of a recluse.  So the diehard fan will love this book, which is also loaded with pictures.  Note, your friend believes Steve Ditko created Spider-Man.
